As DMK'S Youth Wing Secretary

Decided that the Youth wing should help educated unemployed youth by setting up Training Centres in all districts appointing skilled educationists/trainers to coach them in general knowledge, mathematics and English so that they can face recruitment tests for government jobs.

As there was a need for about two lakh drivers for LM and HM vehicles in the State and about one lakh youth could secure these employments if they were trained in driving, it wanted the government to give this training by selecting well-functioning driving schools.

Regretted that sufficient number of youth from Tamil Nadu were not getting selected for uniformed services like army, paramilitary, BSF, CRPF and CSIF due to lack of awareness, requested Tamil Nadu government to train 12,000 youth at the rate 100 from each district quarterly utilizing the services of retired police personnel and ex-servicemen as obtaining in Andhra Pradesh, to enable Tamil youth to get selected for these services.

Various departments of the government were conducting different skill development training programmes, but they were not properly planned and get duplicated. Instead it was suggested that the funds for all these programmes could be integrated and a coordinated skill development training programme should be given; it was also requested that the Rural Development and Local Administration department, which had been allotted considerable funds for various training programmes, be selected as the pioneering department.
Recalling that recently the Erode District collector took the initiative to arrange an Education loan Mela in which all commercial banks participated and educational loans to the tune of Rs.19.83 crore were distributed to 1800 students. Taking this as a pioneering effort, the government was requested to organize programmes for grant of educational loans to needy students.

In as much as the number of government hostels for college students belonging to SC, ST and MBC communities were not sufficient, the government was requested to pay a Rent allowance of Rs.500 for students studying at a distance of 100 km from their place of residence, and their academic performance be taken as criticism for the benefit of the scheme.

Pointing out that as the entrance tests for Central educational institutions like IITs and AIIMS were conducted under Central syllabus, students studying under State syllabus were finding it difficult to get admissions in them, the Centre was requested to conduct tests under State syllabi and provide 50 per cent reservation for such students.

Thanked Chief Minister Kalaignar on behalf of educated youth, students and the public of Tirunelveli district for taking steps for the prosperity of the district and southern districts by setting up Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Law College, Anna University of Technology, Nanguneri Industrial Park, Software Park at Gangaikondan and SIPCOT Industrial Estate.

Listing areas in Madurai, Tirunelveli, Dindigul and other southern districts, where mineral wealth of Elmanite, Silicon, maliflorum, graphite, lignite, natural gas, uranium, sulphur, thorium, amber mica, precious stones and iron ore were found to exist, the State government was asked to study the feasibility of extracting them and start industries and create employment opportunities.

Requested the Chief Minister to set up a veterinary college in Tirunelveli so that the district could attain self-sufficiency in education.

The services of Periyar, Anna and Kalaignar for spreading the light of rationalism, success of social justice and safeguard social amity were innumerable. The Youth wing would organize oratorical, essay and singing competitions in all districts for high and higher secondary school students (boys and girls) in the months of June and September and distribute prizes for State-level winners, thus enabling youth to know their views and creative writings. Moreover, the wing would also provide educational fee for deserving students of poor families among those winners in order to help continue their higher education. It was decided to implement this scheme from the ensuing academic year (2008-09).
