The Dravidian movement cherished the concept of art and literature. Their whole movement always had a subtle reference to the greatness of Tamil- the language, culture and history. The leaders of the movement showcased their beliefs and ideas through creative arts like films and plays, to communicate to people about the rich heritage of Tamil Nadu. The pioneers and seniors in the Dravidian movement have always had the habit of writing their thoughts and principles. Dr. Kalaignar, the leader excels in creative writing having accomplished more than one Lakh pages of literary content. Poet Suradha praises Dr. Kalaignar as the only person in this world who has released a series of poetry containing one thousand pages. More than being Dr. Kalaignar’s son, Thiru M.K. Stalin is more proud as a follower.

Stalin who always enjoyed arts and entertainment, performed his first play ‘Murase Muzhangu,’ presented by Anjugam Nataka Mandram, at N.K.T Kala Mandapam in Triplicane. It was presided by the film actor and late Chief Minister M.G.Ramachandran in the presence of Kalaignar.

This play was a hit and was performed at many places. Four years later its grand success was celebrated at the same venue in Triplicane. MGR lauded the acting talent of Stalin. He continued to act in many hit plays, most noteworthy being “Dindugul Theerpu’, “Needhi Devan Mayakkam”, and “Nalai Namade”. All these plays were promotional plays campaigning party principles and beliefs.

In the fifth State Level conference of DMK held at Coimbatore, on 26th Dec, 1975 Stalin, in the presence of a millions, acted in the campaign play ‘Vetri Namade’. With his talent he eventually forayed into movies like ‘Ore Ratham’ and ‘Makkal Aanaiyittal’ and later in television serials like ‘Kurinji Malar’ and ‘Surya’.

In 1993, he commenced ‘Ilaya Suriyar’ a Tamil weekly as its editor. It was published on 15th Jan 1993. Politics, news, information about Films, Stories, Poetry, Question & Answers appeared. Editor Stalin using hit wit and knowledge always gave interesting answers in the Q &A section. Till 1994, ‘Ilaya Sriyan’ was published regularly.

Collections of Thiru. M. K Stalin’s speeches made during his tenure as the Mayor of Chennai Corporation has been released as a book.  He had travelled around many Indian states and several foreign countries to understand culture and gain knowledge for the administration and modernization of government departments. He has written a book namely Payana Siragugal which is a travelogue on his experiences. He is regularly writing in the party daily paper, Murasoli. He emphasis on communicating his thoughts through regular news papers and magazine articles so that they reach the party cadres and general public. His header reads “One among you”. Many Tamil political observers and authors have written about Thiru. M K Stalin’s work and achievements.
